just. the emotion in his eyes. how he suddenly looks away and lowers his head and there’s such disappointment and sorrow there. it’s heartbreaking. it’s amazing, though - how much you get the sense that there’s so much pain behind the mask he wears, how there’s so much that’s happened in his life that maybe he just wants to forget, because even Sherlock’s human and humans hurt sometimes.

This scene was so brilliant. It illustrated that Sherlock is, in fact, human. He lied and said he’d asked someone about the guy’s world trips because he didn’t want to look like a freak. John was the first person who knew him, really knew him, and didn’t constantly remind him how strange he is. Sherlock isn’t a normal person, clearly, but he’s still a person. He understands people think he’s odd, but every once in a while it gets to him.
God, I love Sherlock.
